NPHS Hosts the First Fashion Club Fashion Show on campus!
On May 5, 2017, The Newbury Park High School hosted their first ever fashion show on campus! Our club titled this fashion show, " Another Day of Sun" and showcased spring/ summer outfits made by students, as well as designs from local boutiques. The show was hosted by Melody Hellard, Fashion Club President, Cali Greenidge, Fashion Club Vice President, and Alexander Chow.
The First collection that was shown was borrowed from the Gary Garner collection. It was a really cool addition to our fashion show because not only did the clothes look great on the models, the clothes were on sale during the show, so if the audience liked an outfit, they could buy it at the show and take it home with them. We as a club also got 20% of the profit from the clothes that were sold, and we can use it toward future projects! See below for pictures of the Gary Garner Collection!
The second collection was borrowed from Succulent Boutique in Thousand Oaks! Succulent let us send some of our models and club members over to the store, and they got to pick out an outfit to wear in the fashion show. These clothes were not on sale during the show, but they were available for purchase at the store in Thousand oaks. See below for for pictures of the clothes from Succulent Boutique!
The other outfits shown at the fashion show were made by Fashion Club President, Melody Hellard, and Vice President, Cali Greenidge. Melody has been sewing since she was eight years old and has always loves fashion. Her style is very vintage inspired, with a modern twist. She loves to use bright colors and prints and really enjoys putting detail into her garments. The clothes she chose to showcase at the fashion show were not all made for the show, but from over the course of a few years, because she wanted to show pieces that were both older and newer. See below for Melody's designs!
Cali has also been sewing since she was eight and loves to design clothes. She has a grandmother from Ghana that sends her fabrics, which she incorporates into her designs, and uses as accents to her garments. She showed a variety of pieces at the fashion show. One of these pieces was even created from a thrifted pair of jeans! She loves to up cycle as well as create clothes from scratch. Both of the girls created the outfits they wore to the show as well! See below for Cali's designs!
The NPHS newspaper, The Panther Prowler attended the event as well, and wrote an article about it! Click the link below to read the audience perspective!
